Penang Asam Laksa

If you are a Malaysian and you are a food hunter, you sure will know about the famous Penang Asam Laksa. Normally during a trip to the Kek Lok Si temple near ayer hitam, you will be sure stopping at Jalan Pasar to fill your empty stomach with the trademark of Ayer Hitam - Assam Laksa.

People are waiting for their turn to place thier order. Actually, you think that good food always charged a higher price, but not for this famous assam laksaa here. Guess what!! Only RM2.70 per bowl of assam laksa.

It had become a landmark of Penang or maybe we called it tourist attraction. The owner of the stall was busying the whole time to prepare the food for their dearest customers. Preparing a nice bowl of assam laksa wasn't easy.

Asam laksa is a sour fish-based soup. Why asam laksa were sour in taste??? This is because tamarind was added to the soup.The main ingredients for asam laksa include shredded fish (kembung fish or mackerel) and finely sliced vegetables including cucumber, onions, red chillis, pineapple, lettuce, mint leaf. Asam laksa is normally served with either thick rice noodles or thin rice noodles. And topped off with "petis udang" or "hae ko" (蝦羔) and known as shrimp paste in English.

One bowl is surely not enough for the big eater. The second one always demanded as the marginal utility (satisfaction in economic studies) remain unchanged for the next bowl.
